Green Tomato Chutney
In September when the nights are getting cooler, the tomatoes are not ripening up as quickly. If you still have a lot of green tomatoes like we do on the farm, it’s a great time to make a delicious Green Tomato Chutney! A perfect companion to cheeses, cold meats, pasties and pies.
Ingredients
- 2.2 kilo's green tomatoes
- 1.3 kilo's cooking apples
- 500 g seedless raisins or sultanas
- 6 large cooking onions
- 1 litre malt vinegar
- 1 kg brown sugar
- 2 tsp cloves
- 2 chillies
- 100 g salt
- 1 tsp white pepper
- 225 g sliced lemon peel - Optional
Method
- Cut up tomatoes and apples.
- Add the remainder of the ingredients.
- Boil all together in one large pot for 3 hours or longer.
- Cool before putting into jars and seal.
