Green Tomato Chutney

In September when the nights are getting cooler, the tomatoes are not ripening up as quickly. If you still have a lot of green tomatoes like we do on the farm, it’s a great time to make a delicious Green Tomato Chutney! A perfect companion to cheeses, cold meats, pasties and pies.

  • 2.2 kilo's green tomatoes
  • 1.3 kilo's cooking apples
  • 500 g seedless raisins or sultanas
  • 6 large cooking onions
  • 1 litre malt vinegar
  • 1 kg brown sugar
  • 2 tsp cloves
  • 2 chillies
  • 100 g salt
  • 1 tsp white pepper
  • 225 g sliced lemon peel - Optional

  • Cut up tomatoes and apples.
  • Add the remainder of the ingredients.
  • Boil all together in one large pot for 3 hours or longer.
  • Cool before putting into jars and seal.
