To celebrate 40 years of Canalside Farm this year, we are interviewing a range of our local suppliers each month, to showcase the amazing work they do, why it is so important to shop local & support these small businesses and generally have a good old catch up!

Calcott Turkeys

Our Supplier Interview for November is Calcott Turkeys.

Richard Calcott has farmed at Wigginton Fields Farm near Tamworth since 1980. He started at the age of 16 years with 100 turkeys selling to local people along with farming beef cattle, sheep, arable and agricultural contracting.

He has gradually expanded the turkeys over the years to 2000 turkeys today, supplying farm shops and butchers.

In 1992 he got married to Deborah and three boys were born in the 1990s Edward, William and George.

We spoke to Richard, Deborah & Edward about what it is like working together and how the Calcott & the Barton family met almost 20 years ago!

Just Crisps & Oil

Our Local Supplier Interview for August was Just Crisps & Oil, based just down the road from us in Hill Ridware. We caught up with Anthony & David about what it is like working for a family business and how they make their amazing crisps & oils.

Grove Estate Vineyard

Grove Estate is a small award winning,  family run vineyard, owned by Rob and Liz Grove with three generations actively involved in the business and operations.

Their aim is to be recognised as a truly local producer of high quality wines. They are very proud to represent Eccleshall and have been amazed by the support and response the local area has shown from the moment they launched their first Rondo wine in 2016.

They are a Single Estate producer, releasing between 2000-3000 bottles a year and when its gone, its gone! They continue to sell out year on year.

We sat down with Rob & Liz to talk about learning on the job(!), the joys of working from your back garden & the attention to detail involved in producing their beautiful English White, Rose & Red wines (both sparkling & still)...

Snugburys Ice Cream

Back in 1986, Chris and Cheryl started making ice cream in their Cheshire farmhouse kitchen. With delicious fresh cream, only the very best ingredients and an old Kenwood Chef, Snugburys was born. They soon outgrew selling ice creams from their kitchen window and converted an old barn in the cobbled courtyard.

Fast forward 30 (odd) years and today, sisters Hannah, Kitty and Cleo are at the helm with a fantastic team of ice cream makers and scoopers!

They have continued their parent’s passion of using only the best ingredients in their famous ice cream, and believe it’s the little things that make a big difference, from that extra bit of caramel ripple or chunk of golden honeycomb...

They have one aim and that is to make people feel good!

We sit down with Cleo to find out more...

Chartley Coffee

Our lovely local Coffee Roaster, based down the road to us in Hixon, have been supplying our Cafe with Coffee (& Tea) since the very first day we opened.

Vic & Sue started the business back in 1979, and now son Owain has taken the helm.

We sat down with Owain to find out a bit more about what makes them so special...

Clive's Wines

To celebrate 40 years of Canalside Farm, we will be interviewing our valued suppliers throughout the year. Our supplier for the month of February is local fruit wine producer - Clive's Wines!

Clive started the business back in 2012 from the kitchen of his house, he now supplies his delicious fruit wine, made using British fruit, all over the country.

We spoke to Clive about his journey so far & some of his exciting plans for the future...
