We are a family run farm that has been growing its own produce for the past 38 years.

It was back in 1983 that we bought this small holding in Great Haywood and planted our first strawberries that spring. From the beginning we have provided soft summer fruits, kitchen vegetables and garden plants directly to businesses across the region, and also to the local community from our Farm Shop – one of Staffordshire’s first!

We have continued to grow and develop our offering to customers over the years, and have since: extended our Farm Shop (twice!); built a new Café alongside the historic Trent and Mersey Canal; developed our Pick Your Own experience to include Halloween pumpkins; established a seasonal Plant Centre in our main glasshouse; and created a programme of inspirational, educational events for all the family to enjoy.

We think we have created something special at Canalside, but don’t take our word for it, come and see for yourself!

Hospitality Manager

Full Time

Usual opening hours 9am-5pm. Weekend work will be required.

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Hospitality / Café / Restaurant Manager to join our growing Café team here at the Farm.

The Hospitality Manager will be required to lead and drive Canalside Farm’s hospitality offer, & profitably operate a dual model of indoor premium hospitality through our Cafe and outdoor ‘quick pick’ convenience through our Coffee Hut.

The Manager must ensure a team culture of positivity, embrace a purpose of satisfying the customer, and deliver on the business’s strategy to be a premium destination.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Leadership

Ultimately responsible for setting the standards for your department, delivering strategic objectives, allocating resource where required, coaching, overseeing training, people management & motivation, organising the rota, assistance with hiring, starter inductions, performance reviews, and performance management.

  • Customer Service

Be the highlight for the customer by providing exceptional customer service and getting your team to do the same through positivity, knowledgeable interactions, and completing requests all whilst being, quick & efficient.

  • Maintenance of Food Safety Standards

Ultimately responsible for ensuring the production of food & drinks is completed to the Business’s high food safety standards, working within the established processes, completing our checklists, ensuring the department is kept clean, organised, and well maintained.

  • Profitable Operation

Ultimately responsible for ensuring the department is profitable by managing margins through staffing appropriately, buying appropriately (whilst maintaining stock levels), ensuring efficiencies, accurately costing, minimising waste, and setting prices.

  • One team

The whole team wins when it’s together, department managers must work collaboratively with other departments to ensure the success of their own department, and the success of other departments – this requires clear and ongoing communication and establishing a mutual rhythm of cooperation.

  • Remaining Current & Engaging the Customer

Must be aware of industry trends, generate new ideas and initiatives for marketing opportunities, menu setting, and be open to suggestions.

Additional duties can include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparation of drinks and food accurately, efficiently and with minimal waste;
  • Take food orders out to tables;
  • Clear tables ensuring a clean space ready for the next customer quickly;
  • Operate the till quickly and accurately;
  • Counting the till at the end of trading;
  • Attending to customer queries and requests;
  • Food preparation within the guidelines of the HACCP Manual and to a high presentation standard;
  • Clean surfaces, floors, tables;
  • Answer incoming phone calls;
  • Directing employees to complete tasks in line with the needs of the Café & Coffee Hut;
  • Completing orders & stock management;

Competitive salary, dependent on experience.
